Ethiopia’s government is blaming European Union election observers for the violent riots which took place after this year’s election and left at least 42 people dead. In a statement released on Saturday, The Ministry of Information said "The mission, against the regulations of its tasks as an observer, illegally and secretly leaked unfounded information to the opposition which gave them confidence wrongly so as to lead them to violence in the streets," the government statement said.
A statement released in Brussels on Friday said that the voting process in Ethiopia did not meet international standards and the May 15 election period was "balanced and impartial".
